Christmas 2022
Christmas was celebrated in the patio of Loyola Degree College on 23rd December 2022. The chief guest for this celebration was Dr L. Divya Darshini, B.P.T, M.I.A.P., a consultant physiotherapist. She is also a social activist at Payana TGTI (Transgender community), Bangalore. The chief guest shared her life story and experiences as a transgender with the students and advised the students about the importance of inclusiveness.

Road safety and Traffic rules Awareness programme
Spandana (Centre for Social Concern) in association with Hulimavu Traffic Police Station has organized "Road safety and traffic rules awareness program on 29th November. 2022 at 2:15pm. Dr. Ravikumar PG, director of Centre for Social Concern welcomed the gathering with his warm words.

Student Council Elections
On 09/11/22 the Election of the year 2022-23 for student council was conducted. Students were excited to do the voting and the election committee under the guidance of the chief election commissioner Mr. Calvin George the polling booth for the election was arranged. Every year students used to cast their votes through ballet papers but, this year new technology was used in which students casted their votes in electronic mode.

Kannada Rajyotsava
67th Karnataka Rajyotsava was celebrated in Loyola Degree College Gandhi maidan on Saturday, 5th November 2022 with a splash of music, dance and motivating speeches by the staff and students. Program was inaugurated by Jyothi H B BBMP worker of Gottigere ward, Bangalore. Chief guest was Dr. S Balaji, State President of Kannada Janapada Parishath Bangalore. He spoke about the importance of the various folk forms in Karnataka.

Fresher’s Day
Fresher’s Day celebration for the new academic batch 2022-23 was organized on 29th October 2022 at Gandhi Maidan. The seniors meticulously planned the event which included various games and fun activities. The games took place in levels. The first level was Treasure hunt which was conducted on 22nd October 2022. Six teams were qualified for the 2nd level. Hogathon, the second qualifying event was held on 27 th October 2022.

Parivarthana 22, graduation of the first batch of students of Anveshana, a certificate course on Gandhian studies was held on September 12, 2022 at AULA, Mount St Joseph auditorium. Ms Indira Krishnappa, Secretary Gandhi Bhavan was the Chief Guest and Dr Jeevan Kumar D, former Professor of Political Science, Bangalore University was the Guest of Honour.

The fresh batch of students of 1st BCom and I BA of 2022 gathered at AULA. Mount St. Joseph auditorium for ARAMBHA’22, inauguration of the course on 29th August 2022 at 2:00pm. Dr. Vincent, Vice-Principal welcomed the gathering. An inter-religious prayer meeting conducted by Fr. Prathap Chandra SJ, campus minister, set the ball rolling. Students participated in the prayer meeting with reverence. Addressing the student community, the Principal, Dr. Fr. Alphonse Fernandes SJ spelt out his expectations on the occasion.

Loyola Degree College celebrated its first Ethnic day ‘TARANG – Embracing Differences’ on 17th August 2022. The program was conducted by Student Council along with the help of Rovers and Rangers Association and IQAC. The program started by 1:30pm at Gandhi Maidan which was blessed by the presence of Dr. Fr. Alphonse Fernandes SJ.

Out of 123 students who appeared for the 5th semester examination, 6 turned out to be outstanding and 33 First Class Exemplary. 102 students appeared for the 3rd semester examination, amongst whom 30 students secured First Class Distinction and 31 secured First Class.

Faith Formation
John 15:20 says "Remember what I told you: ‘A servant is not greater than his master.’ If they persecuted me, they will persecute you also". On 22nd July 2022, a one-day retreat was organized in the Mount St. Joseph premises by the Campus Ministry of Loyola Degree College for all the Christian students of the college. There were about 55 students who had attended this retreat along with 2 faculties. The preacher for the retreat was Rev Fr. Jerome D’Souza SJ.

The Loyolotsava 2022 was inaugurated on 25th July 2022. The chief guest for the program was Fr. Prashanth, the director of Ignatian spirituality center at Mount St. Joseph who declared Loyolotsava open. Fr. Dr. Alphonse Fernandes SJ gave the presidential address to convey the 500 th year of Ignatius conversion. Department Of Commerce
"Report On Industrial Visit To Unibicfoods India Pvt. Ltd Bangalore"
Department of Commerce organized an Industrial visit to Unibic Factory on 23rd July 2022. This visit was for the awareness of the students on the production process of the company. Fifty-five students participated in the industrial visit assisted by two faculty members.

The management of the college organized the staff orientation programme for all the faculties of the college on 28th May 2022 at 9.30 AM in the college. The resource person for the programme was Rev. Dr. Anil D’ Almeida SJ. The staffs were oriented on the topic Characteristics of Jesuit education, which gave a detailed insight about the responsibility of the staff towards the society.

NSS CAMP REPORT – 2021-2022
The NSS unit of Loyola Degree College hosted annual camp at Kanshi foundation located in the Kanakapura main road from 7 th May 2022 to 13 th May 2022. The camp was inaugurated on 07 May 2022 by the chief guest Rev.Fr. Francis D’ Almeida SJ along with other dignitaries namely Rev.Dr. Alphonse Fernandez SJ, principal of Loyola Degree College, Dr.Vincent A, vice principal, Mr.Roshan Honest Raj, the placement officer, Dr.Kumaraswamy Bejjihalli, dean of Humanities, Dr.Rajesh, dean of Commerce and members of the staff.

LOYTRAX 2022 was held on 11th March 2022. The program began with Guard of Honor by college president, vice president along with sports secretary. The chief guest Mr. VR Raghunath, former Indian Hockey Team captain, double Olympian, Arjuna awardee along with Fr. Anthony Joseph SJ, rector, Loyola Institutions and Fr. Francis D’ Almeida SJ, the former Principal, unfurled the college flag. Ms. Rowena was the announcer for the day.

The NSS unit, in association with Apollo Hospitals, BG Road, Bengaluru, organised an awareness session on sleep disorders in youth on March 4th, 2022 for the NSS volunteers and the cultural association students. On June 10th, 2022, a health awareness session on stress and anxiety management in association with Apollo Hospitals, Human Rights (Loyola) and Red Cross (Loyola) was organized.

Workshop on The Idea of India
The Dr. B R Ambedkar Study Centre and Gandhi Study Centre in association with Constitution Club Karnataka organized one day workshop on the Idea of India on 30th of January 2023. Mr. Sasikanth Senthil, former IAS officer was the chief guest of the programme. Ms. Najam Nazeer Chikkanerale, A social activist from Constitution Club, Karnataka, associated with us for this workshop.

Seminar on 'Film Direction and Film Crew'
Department of Journalism

The Department of Journalism in collaboration with Loy-Madhyam, organized a one-day seminar on October 29, 2021 for Journalism and Loy-Madhyam students on ‘Film Direction and Film Crew’. The resource person for the seminar was Mr Seong Yoon Ryu, a Technical Director TV Studio in Sogang University, South Korea.

Christmas was celebrated in the Mahatma Gandhi study centre ground of Loyola Degree College on 23rd December 2021. The chief guest for this celebration was Brother Mani Karott (LBJ), currently regional in-charge of the congregation in India. He spoke about the importance of birthdays in other religions and the message they carry in each celebration. He asked the students to take a pledge that never to allow our country to be divided by religion.

Red Cross and Human Rights jointly organized Human Rights Day. Human Rights Day celebrations kicked off at 2:30 pm on December 10, 2021 in Patio. There was active participation from all students. Human rights day was celebrated by holding various student competitions, including painting competitions, college competitions, pick and speak and essay competitions.

Constitution Day Report
On November 26, 2021, Loyola Degree College celebrated Constitution Day at the Mahatma Gandhi Study Centre Maidhan at 11AM. Dr Dayanad Naik, Associate Professor of Political Science department from Mangalore University was the guest of honour. The guest of the day spoke at length on the importance of the constitution and its relevance toady. The programme was presided over by Fr Anthony Joseph SJ, Rector Mount St Joseph.

Report On Fresher’s Day 2021-2022
On 13th November 2021 freshers day was organised for freshers in ITI hall. The main purpose of this fresher’s day was to welcome the new Loyolites and to guide them in excellence of learning new things. The cultural association members and student council members organised various cultural programs for the freshers. They also conducted games for both freshers and the new teachers who joined the Loyola family.

Digital Fluency
A report to the Newsletter

The new education policy has been adopted by the government of Karnataka at the undergraduate level of Education. There have been major changes in the system of education with the introduction of New Education Policy. Digital Fluency is a subject that has been introduced for the undergraduate programme across the entire state of Karnataka.

Loyola Degree college library is a new library and 5 years old. It regularly subscribes to five national journals and three international journals, periodical/magazines and eight daily newspapers. It caters to the needs of more than 510 graduate students and 30 staff. The library follows the Dewey Decimal Scheme of Classification. Books are arranged on the shelves, Author wise, Semester wise and Subject wise. The Library is open from 8.30 a.m. to 4.00 p.m.

National Service Scheme
Report on work at Mylasandra

The NSS team, under the Guidance of Mr. Raajath Naik (Assistant NSS Officer) , Ms. Akshaya A , Mr. Karthik, Mr. Ravikumar, Mr. Roshan and Mr. Lazarus carried out Shramadan work in the premises of St. Vanachinappa Shrine at Mylasandra, Bettadasanapura, Bangalore – 560100 on October 23rd , 2021, from 9am to 12.45pm.
The team of 45 members including six lecturers, assembled in the college premises by and left to Mylansandra by 8.15am after a short prayer led by the Vice Principal of the college Dr. Vincent A. while Dr. Kumaraswamy, the Dean of arts discipline oriented the team on Discipline.

Leadership Orientation workshop
The principal announced that there will be an Orientation work shop at Ashirvad, #30, St. Marks Road, Bangalore. Accordingly, Mrs Maria Thejeswini, the Director of student council made all arrangements. All council members enthusiastically participated in this workshop. The workshop happened for three days . Various sessions on team work and co-ordination were organised for students to instal leadership qualities among students by qualified resource person.

Report On Student Council Investiture 2021-2022
The Investiture Ceremony for the academic year 2021-2022 was held on the 22nd October 2021 at 2.30 pm. The chief guest for the event was Dr.Jerome Xavier - Principal, St. Vincent Pallotti College, Chellekere. The ceremony began with College Anthem and prayer, co- ordinated by Ms Swetha and Mr Lazarus along with choir team of the college. A welcome speech given by newly appointed student council director Ms Maria Thejeswini B followed by lighting of the lamp by the chief guest

Various inter class matches were held to enhance their social interaction and test one’s physical ability. These competitions gave a break to the students from their routine work and energised them. The following were the matches which were held at the campus

Report On Student Council Election 2021-2022
“A leader is one who knows the way, goes the way, and shows the way”.
The election for the “Student Council” for the year 2021-2022 was held on 16th October 2021, Saturday in the college premises. on 24th June, 2021. On the day of the event for the post of president 5 students, for the post of secretary 4 students, for the post of cultural secretary 3 students, for the post of joint secretary 9 students were nominated.

Mahatma Gandhi Study Centre celebrated Gandhi Jayanthi on October 2, 2021 at 9.30 am in the College quadrangle. Dr. Jeevan Kumar, former professor of Political Science and Director of Gandhian Studies, Bangalore University was the Chief Guest. “Contemporary relevance of Gandhi” was the topic of his lecture. Students actively participated in the interaction session after the lecture. The Chief Guest appreciated the participation of the students.

Inauguration of Gymnasium
The college opened a new gymnasium. The motive of the gym is to increase the awareness of fitness and health. It was inaugurated by Fr Anthony Joseph SJ, the rector of Mount St. Joseph. Mr Karthick, the physical director was responsible for the setting up of the gym. Fr. Francis Almeida’s constant support and innovativeness is a fruit of this new endeavor. The students could enroll membership to the gym.

Republic Day
The republic day was celebrated in the college and a spirit of patriotism was invoked in the students. The chief guest for the programme was Mr Venkappa, support staff of the college hoisted the tricolor. The principal, Fr Francis D’ Almeida addressed the gathering. Mr. Roshan Honest Raj, the placement officer was the staff representative delivered a thought-provoking speech.

Constitution Day
The constitution day was celebrated in a grand Fashion in the college. There was various competition held for the week for the students. The competitions culminated with a program on 26 November. The chief guest for the program was Dr Dayanand Naik, associate professor, Department of Political Science, Mangalore University. He insisted about the importance of the constitution.

Report On Farewell For The Batch Of 2018-2021
“Not the End only a different beginning…”
In an emotionally surcharged atmosphere in the college patio, the students, staff and management of the College bid adieu to the final year students of 2018-2021 batch, at a grand farewell function held here at the College campus on September 15th 2021 at 2.30pm.

Placement Cell
The academic year 2020 – 21 was momentous for the placement cell of the Loyola Degree college. A total number of 86 students were successfully placed in esteemed companies and firms. ASTER Pharma, Edutech, HDFC Bank, Capgemini and NIVARA were prestigious companies that collaborated with the college and took professionally skilled candidates under its wings.

Rotract Club
The inauguration of Rotract Club happened swiftly in the college premises. The Principal, Fr Francis D’Almeida SJ, Dr. Tara Nair, the co-ordinator of Rotaract Club, along with the student body welcomed the Chief Guest and the Dignitaries of the event. Dr.V. Tara Nair welcomed the gathering. The meeting took off with a prayer song. The Principal, Fr Francis D’ Almeida SJ inaugurated Rotract club in the college.

BA Media Visit
Media visit adds an experience in one’s learning of Journalism and the curriculum of the university highly recommends it. The university has made it mandatory to have the media tour. A one-day tour to Vijaya Karnataka (TOI), and Praja Satya, newspaper industries in Mysore on September 9, 2021. Students were taken to various desks of the printing press and were introducing the functioning of the newspaper press.

Mr. Ravikumar P G was invited as a resource person in a webinar titled, “Sharanaru: panchaachaara – sapthachaaraparikalpane”, organized by siddha mangala seva kendra on August 25, 2021. He was also a recipient of “Kayakayogiprashasthi” by the same Kendra and the award was given on August 7, 2021.
Ms Swetha Wenona Suvarna from the Department of Commerce cleared the KSET in the month January 2021.

Psychology Webinar - Detailed Report

A webinar was conducted on July 29, 2021 on the topic “Learning in the Digital Age: Challenges in Language Acquisition.” The resource person was Dr Kiran Prasad B. He spoke about the various challenges faced by the educational sector during this Pandemic phase.

He illustrated that though digital media with its new age advancement might be considered favourable and user friendly. Nonetheless it poses a few drawbacks in learning and language acquisition.

Shan Michael participated in various district and state events and competitions, winning prestigious recognitions. He has secured 2nd place in vernacular singing held at Mount Carmel college, 1st place in state level poetry writing and presentation, 1st in state level Bhavageethe competition, chosen as ‘Master of the ceremony' for Vishwa Kannada Sahithya Parishad 2021, Awarded as ‘Karnataka’s young poet’, and nominated for ‘Kittur Rani Chanammasahithi’award, Karnataka Literature Star Award and many more.
